Arthur Girio, 95, of Loyalsock Township and a longtime resident of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020.

Art was born in Williamsport on Oct. 7, 1924, a son of George and Andonetta Scoppa Girio. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School, following High School he served in the U.S. Army. During WWII he served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters, following his tour of duty he continued in the active U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant Major. He also enrolled and was a graduate of Lycoming College.

He was a member of the former Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church and is currently a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 366 and a 4 ^th degree member of the Father Reichsteiner Assembly.

Art was the owner of the Girio Agency, a family-owned real estate brokerage and development Company, and insurance agency. He was very involved in the community as a member of the West Branch Valley Association of Realtors and a founding member of, its Multiple Listing Service. He served on the Williamsport Zoning Hearing Board and the Williamsport Authority. He was a tireless worker continuously raising money for many charities and had a great passion for the work of the Lions Club, He was a member of the Williamsport Lions Club, Past District Governor of Lion's District 14G, and one of the founding Director of Camp Victory, a camp for special needs children. He was also a member of the American Legion Garrett Cochran Post 1 and the Son and Daughters of Italy Lodge 138.

His wife of 69 years, the former Liberata "Libby" Testa died April 8, 2016.

Surviving are his children; Annette Girio of Doylestown, George (Patricia Bubb) Girio of South Williamsport, Joseph (Cherie Beck) Girio of Montoursville, Eva Girio of Loyalsock Township, son-in-law Douglas Winner of Lewisburg; 14 grandchildren;16 great grandchildren and a brother Richard of Williamsport.

In addition to his parents; a daughter, Regina Girio Winner; siblings, Joseph Girio, Carlo Girio, Eva Pellegrino and Philip Girio all preceded him in death.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.
