Carlyle Frederick Engel Jr., 88, of Williamsport, passed at The Williamsport Home on December 24, 2025.

He was born in Williamsport on February 12, 1937, a son to the late Carlyle F. Sr. and Anna (Berrigan) Engel.

Carlyle is a St. Joseph High School graduate. After graduating he went into the Air Force in March 1957, where he served overseas. He was honorably discharged November of 1960 and was a member of Post 617 American Legion.

He married Ada Swarthout on May 29th, 1964, and celebrated 49 years before her passing on April 14, 2013. Aunt Ada was the best thing that ever happened to Carl and was absolutely a wonderful woman.

He was a stepfather to Timothy Swarthout, who preceded both Carl and Ada in death.

Carl was employed for most of his life as an insurance salesman at Prudential Insurance Company, where he was awarded numerous trips for being a top salesman. Carl prided himself on being a sharp dressed man.

Carl enjoyed searching for golf balls while playing golf, occasional fishing trips to Pine Creek with brother P'nut, and high diving acrobatics off P'nut's house. Carl and Ada were great card partners back in the day, playing setback and other games.

After retiring, Carl and Ada moved south to Barefoot Bay in sunny Florida. Carl moved back to Williamsport a few years ago and was surrounded by numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to cousin Bart and Shelby for opening their home to Uncle Carl for a daily coffee and cigarette.

Carl is survived by twin sister Mary Annette Engel SCC, whom he adored, along with grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, beloved wife Ada, and stepson Timothy, Carl was preceded in death by his sisters Joanne, Jeannie, Kathleen; and brothers John (P'Nut), Jimmy, and Joe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00am on Fri., January 16, 2026 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport PA 17701. Burial to follow at Wildwood Cemetery with full military honors.
