Charlotte M. Nichols, 99, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at AristaCare of Loyalsock.

Born April 12, 1920, she was the eldest child of Edward A. Engel Sr. and Margaret (Hoebner) Engel.

She married William C. Nichols Sr. on Aug. 20, 1942, and they were married for almost 55 years until his death in 1997.

Charlotte was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Church and often spoke of how proud she was of being of a direct lineage to the first German Catholics in the area who settled in Bastress in 1839 where the Engel family homestead was established. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Top of the Hill Club.

She enjoyed giving her time at the St. Anthony's Center and Meals on Wheels. She was also a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post 104 in Montoursville.

Charlotte loved being a homemaker, and a "Grammy." She loved spending time with all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, brothers, Edward Engel, Louis Engel; and a son, William C. Nichols Jr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by sons, Guy E. (Barbara) Nichols, of Williamsport, Edward C. Nichols, of Palm Springs, Calif.; and a daughter, Barbara (Timothy) Benshaw, of Williamsport; her six grandchildren, Angela Nichols, Jennifer Egizio, Jeffrey Nichols, Benjamin Benshaw, Alexandria Sweeney, Margaret Benshaw; and seven great-grandchildren, Nadia, Nicholas, Nathan, Jacelyn, Jackson, Harper and Gavin.

Charlotte's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the administration and staff at AristaCare for their loving care of mom and to Dr. Lee Ciccarelli for his excellent care.

The family will receive family and friends at the church on Wednesday, May 8, from noon to 1 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, followed by burial at St. Boniface Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Crouse Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
