Eleanor A. Stopper, 85, of Williamsport passed away peacefully at The Gatehouse on May 25, 2024, while surrounded by her family.

She was born in Williamsport on June 25, 1938, the daughter of Francis P. Cummings II and Irene (Williams) Cummings.

Eleanor was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and a member of the church's choir. She was also a graduate of the former St. Joseph High School.

She had worked several jobs, primarily with Bell Telephone, later AT&T from which she retired.

Eleanor's entire life was filled with music. She had a beautiful mezzo-soprano voice and beginning at a very young age sang at social functions, weddings and for the Gesang Verein Harmonia Club and Chorus and the Williamsport Civic Chorus.

She and her husband, James L. Stopper celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on October 22, 2023. In addition to her husband, she is survived by their children and their families; James A. (Elise) of Williamsport, Kathleen A. of West Milton, Michael A. (Laura) of Virginia Beach, VA, John P. (Rachel) of Mountain Top, Thomas A. (Melissa) of New Columbia, Matthew F. of Milton, Francis J. (Jessica) of Allentown; 17 grandchildren, Michael, Alexander, Jacob, Sarah, Nicole, Julia, Amanda, Matthew, Michelle, Danielle, Charles Jr., Audrey, Benjamin, Anthony, Harrison, Graham, and Olivia; two great grandchildren, Wyatt and Ashton; brothers, Robert and Michael Cummings of Williamsport and Richard (Celine) Cummings of Linden.

In addition to her parents; a son, Charles E. Stopper; grandson, Samuel J. Stopper; brothers, Dennis and Francis P. Cummings III all preceded her in death.

There will be no visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday May 31, 2024, 10 am at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. 4th St., Williamsport, burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 711 W. Edwin St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or a charity of your choice.
