Henry J. Wenzel Jr., a resident of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Oct. 17, 2019, at The Gatehouse while surrounded by his loving family.

The son of Henry J. Wenzel Sr. and Mabel K. (Winters) Wenzel was born in Williamsport. He was also a winter resident of Sarasota, Fla., for many years after retiring. He was president of the Longwood Run Community Association for many years.

He graduated from Williamsport High School and Lycoming College. He received his master's degree from Bloomsburg University and did additional graduate work at Bucknell and Penn State University.

Henry was employed by Montoursville Area School District as a teacher and principal for Montour and Lyter Elementary schools; he retired in 1993.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Occupation Forces in Japan from 1946 to 1949. Henry was also a veteran of the Korean Conflict, being recalled to active duty in 1950.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, and volunteered  at the Salvation Army.

Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Paula, (the love of his life for 53 years), his parents, two sisters and five brothers.

He is survived by his son Steven (Rosellen), granddaughter, Melissa (Brett) Kelley, and soon-to-be great-grandson.

The family will receive family and friends in the church portico on Tuesday Oct. 22, from 9 to 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with his pastor, Rev. Brian Van Fossen, officiating. Internment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions in Henry's name be made to either St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 711 W. Edwin St., Williamsport, PA 17701, or The Susquehanna Health Foundation for the benefit of The Gatehouse, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
