James E. Bischof

James E. Bischof, 77, of South Williamsport, passed away at the Williamsport Home, surrounded by his family and loved ones, on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019. Jim was born in Williamsport on April 6, 1941, and was the son of the late Raymond J. and Hazel I. (Murphy) Bischof.

On Oct. 26, 1963, Jim married Saline J. Frelin and shared 55 years of marriage. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish. Jim graduated from St Mary's High School in 1959 and attended Lycoming College. For 38 years Jim worked as a sales representative, 13 years for W.A. Dehart and 25 years for the American Tobacco Company. Jim was a PIAA basketball official and enjoyed officiating basketball for 26 years. An avid fisherman and hunter, Jim loved to hunt and fish with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed spending time with his family, Penn State football, golfing, attending to his apple trees, pear trees and grape vines, and playing with his three dogs. Jim also volunteered at the St. Anthony Center and delivered Meals on Wheels. People who knew Jim would say he had an infectious sense of humor, quick wit, and if he were here today he would be trying to make us all laugh.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Gregory A. Bischof, of South Williamsport; Michael T. (Erica) Bischof, of Williamsport; and Brett J. (Amy) Bischof, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; two brothers, Thomas Bischof, of Thorpe, Wis., and Joseph Bischof, of Williamsport; two sisters, Mary Margaret Hale, of Hanover, Pa., and Arlene McGee, of Purcellville, Va.; and four grandsons, Tyler, Bridger, Graysen and Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Gerald Bischof, and a sister, Gladys McFadden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish with Rev. Fr. Brian Van Fossen officiating, with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the church portico from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.
