James C. Karnes, 87, of Loyalsock Twp., passed away at home on September 20, 2026, while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Williamsport on May 8, 1939, a son of the late Carlton "Jessie" and Helen V. (Bowers) Karnes.

Jim was a proud firefighter with the Williamsport Fire Department for over 24 years, where he retired as a Lieutenant. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, in local streams, rivers and lakes, when was younger he also enjoyed deep sea fishing,

His wife of 26 years, Sharon Ann (Harvey) Karnes, died on September 8, 2021.

He is survived by daughters; Cynthia (Dennis) Lowell of Montgomery, Diane (Mike Hook) Ogden of South Williamsport, and Debra (Martin) Winterer of Front Royal, VA; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 step-children and brothers Terry Karnes of Williamsport, and David Karnes of Johnstown.

A Funeral Service will be held at Crouse Funeral Home 133 E Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, at 1:00pm with Paul Scott officiating

The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home prior to the service, from 12:00 to1:00pm.

Burial will follow at Green Lawn Memorial Park  with full military honors and the Williamsport Fire Company preforming a bell ringing ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions be made in Jim's name to the Susquehanna Health Foundation, for the benefit of the Hillman Cancer Center, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
