Joan Levering Collins 90, of Williamsport, passed away on Sunday evening, January 27, 2020 at the Williamsport Home. She was born in Williamsport on May 25, 1929 to Mayor Thomas H. and Isabel H.C. Levering. Joan graduated from Williamsport High School. In 1950 she married Richard S. Collins, Sr. who predeceased her in 2007. Surviving her are a brother, Charles E. (Sharon) Levering, daughters Ann E. Collins and Debralee (Jefferson) Porter, sons, Richard S. Collins, Jr. and Robert L. Collins.

She worked as a salesperson for L.L. Sterns & Sons, J.C. Penney, Brozman's, Kinney Shoes and Wolf Furniture during the heyday of downtown Williamsport. Her last position there was with Reliable Furniture where she worked as an interior decorator. After her husband retired, they started Collins Antiques which specialized in beautifully restored furniture. She held her last job for over 20 years as a dental assistant to her son-in-law, Dr. Jefferson Porter. She finally retired in 2014 at the age of 85.

Joan was known for her energy, creativity, good humor and her distinctive laugh. She sang in the St. Cecelia Choir, taught Sunday School and was a Vestry Member at Christ Episcopal Church where she was a lifelong member. Joan and Dick restored their Victorian home on First Avenue in Williamsport and worked to promote Williamsport's Historic District. She was Charter Board member of Preservation Williamsport. She was a beautiful knitter, a seamstress extraordinaire and an art quilter.

Above all Joan loved her family. Her children's friends were always welcome to pull up an extra chair to the table for a good meal or a rousing game of Set Back. She was the beloved Nana to her grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren: Shannon (Joseph) Butters, Isabel, Lila & Jake, Zachary Porter, Lisa (Tim) Winters, Hannah, Rebecca & Benjamin and Brandy (Keith) Bloom, Owen and Charlotte Lee.

Please join us to celebrate her life at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry Street, Williamsport, PA 17701, a visitation with the family and a luncheon will follow the service.
