Joel F. Wessner, 68, of Derry, NH, passed away on June 6, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born on February 7, 1956, Joel was the son of the late Ralph and Lois Wessner of Auburn, PA.

After graduating from Blue Mountain High School, he pursued his interest in carpentry at WACC, earning an associate degree in Construction Carpentry. After a 34 year career at PennDOT, Joel retired as an Assistant County Maintenance Manager of Lycoming County.

Joel was involved in the Boy Scouts during his youth, and later became the Scoutmaster of St. Ann's Troop 38. Under his guidance, the troop embarked on two memorable high adventure trips—one to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico and another to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. His leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on the lives of many scouts.

A cherished tradition in Joel's life was hunting and fishing with his son and his best friend, Steve, and Steve's son, Watson. These moments of camaraderie and connection in the great outdoors were among Joel's most treasured memories. Numerous bucks were taken at "Carly's Log."

Being outdoors was synonymous with Joel's character, like a fish to water. His granddaughters adored their time fishing and canoeing with their Pappy, creating memories filled with love and laughter to last their lifetime.

Joel is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elsie, of Derry, NH; his son Zachary and daughter-in-law Claudia of Windham, NH; and his granddaughters, Zelda and Maeve. He also leaves behind his brothers Ronald (Gloria) and Craig (Valerie) Wessner of Auburn, PA. He was preceded in death by his sister Leslie Schoffstall of Schuylkill Haven, PA.

Everyone who knew Joel, will remember his selflessness, positive outlook, and kindness. We all have a Joel story that makes us smile.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22nd at 11:00 am at Barbours Cemetery in Barbours, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joel's memory can be made to the following organizations:
