Joseph R. Girio, 91 of South Williamsport, passed away at The Gatehouse on Thursday, November 29, 2018 while surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph served our country for 13 years in the U.S. Army and was a WWII Army veteran. He was very proud veteran and enjoyed sharing his stories.

Joseph retired from Conrail and also served as Deputy Sheriff in Columbia County. Joseph has special memories he shared with his great friend David Keller. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Joseph was a very kind, loyal father and grandfather. He loved family gatherings and spending time with his grandchildren.

Joseph was a man of faith and had strong belief in God, Father John Victoria was Joseph's guardian angel. Joseph had a loyal friend whom he looked forward to seeing every day, Robert Kline. They enjoyed each other's company, and was his second guardian angel.

Joseph was the father of four children; Nancy (Douglas) Hofford of Montoursville, Chris (Lori) Girio of Muncy, Marcia (Anthony) Tanner of South Williamsport and Linda (Max) Strouse with whom he lived., Joseph has many grandchildren and great grandchild. Also surviving are his brothers Arthur and Richard Girio

He was preceded in death by his parents; George and Andonetta Girio, his brothers Carl and Phillip, sister Eva Pellegrino son-in-law Charles R. Yarison Jr. and his late wife, Doris Girio, which he had an unconditional love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Rd., Williamsport with the Rev. John J. Victoria officiating followed by full military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.

A private burial in Resurrection Cemetery will be held on Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request memorial contribution in Joseph's name may be made to; Susquehanna Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 for the benefit of the Gatehouse.
