Lewis (Lew) Shatto, 92, of Hardy, VA, entered into eternal life on Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026 while in The Sheila Strauss Hospice House in Roanoke, VA.

A native of Williamsport, PA, he moved to VA in 2023 after his beloved wife Barbara passed. His son Randall and daughter-in-law Christine welcomed him into their home and were his loving care givers these past 3 years.

Lew often talked about how much he looked forward to Saturdays when he and his son spent time together cutting grass and doing yard work. Friday evenings they all shared special time with each other enjoying a relaxing meal at a favorite restaurant and on Sundays attending Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in VA with his parish family.

He is predeceased by his parents; (father) Laverne Shatto in 1961, (mother) Margaret (King) Shatto in 1997, (brother) Robert (Bob) Shatto who died when the Omney Bay was sunk in the Pacific on 1-4-1945, and his beloved wife Barbara (Stroup) Shatto in April, 2023. They met in 7th grade and began dating shortly thereafter. They had been married 68 years at the time of her death.

Lew and Barbara were active participants at Holy Cross Orthodox Church in Williamsport with their priest, Fr. Daniel Kovalak, many years before her passing. They enjoyed making pierogies, working at election day dinners and various fund raisers, as well as being active members at Holy Cross. Lew helped build the log parish center at Holy Cross as well.  They later attended Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Berwick, with Fr. Michael Demko and were welcomed warmly into the parish community.

He is survived by his beloved son, and daughter in-law, Randall Shatto and his wife Christine (Schramm) Shatto of VA; a granddaughter Ekaterina Shatto of Williamsport, step grandchildren David Aderhold and wife Kimberly (Williams) of VA, Erica (Aderhold) and husband Paul Savini of PA., as well as his daughter, Kathleen (Shatto) White and husband V. Rev. Gregory White, Sr. of PA, grandchildren Stefany (White) Morin and husband Marc Morin of VA, Kristin (White) Jubinski and husband John Jubinski of NC, Gregory White, Jr. and wife Desiree Hesslebarth White of NC along with 15 great grandchildren, many beloved nieces, nephews and many greatly treasured friends.

Lew loved talking with people and helping them through life's ups and downs. He was definitely a 'people' person.

Years ago he and Barbara anonymously helped many young people and families that were in need.  He was involved in the 'Big Brother' program, helping numerous young boys that needed support and love.

At his request, he asked that in lieu of flowers, that any donations be sent to the S.P.C.A. to help animals.

May his memory be eternal and may he dwell with the blessed!

A Graveside service will be held 11:00am on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Montoursville Cemetery, 1401 Broad St., Montoursville PA 17754, with Rev. Michael Demko officiating.
