Matilda "Tillie" Matlock formerly of Williamsport, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in York.

She was born April 2, 1929 in Lansford, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Sura) Matlock. Her father Michael died 27 days after she was born. Her mother married Walter Gurnavage and their marriage produced two sons, Tillie's brothers Walter Jr. and George Gurnavage, both deceased. Her mother and father are deceased as well.

She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews, 25 great nieces and nephews, and 16 great, great nieces and nephews.

She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Hospital, School of Nursing, class of 1950, Allentown, Pa and a graduate of Sacred Heart Hospital of anesthesia in 1952.

She came to work at Divine Providence Hospital in 1952 where she worked in the operating room and obstetrics giving anesthesia. She also worked doing emergencies on the unit's x-ray depts. and emergency rooms as needed.

In 1972, she was promoted to chief nurse anesthetist, scheduling and supervising activities in the anesthesia department and giving anesthesia. She did this until October of 1989 when she retired.

She was president of the Scranton diocese of Catholic nurses. She was president of the Pennsylvania Association of nurse anesthetists. (P.A.N.A).

She was an active member of St. Boniface Church and was the first female to be elected as council chairperson. Tillie was a proclaimer of the word from 1972 until 2010. She was a Eucharistic minister serving at the church, Williamsport Hospital, Williamsport Home, as well as to the homes of the parishioners.

She enjoyed reading, hooking rugs, gardening, playing the harmonica and guitar and traveling.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd, Williamsport, PA with the Rev. William Corcoran officiating.

Burial at SS Peter and Paul RC Lithuanian Cemetery in Tamaqua will be at the convenience of the family.
