Obituary

Maureen Neville, a longtime resident of Lycoming County, passed away in her sleep Sunday, November 1, at Williamsport Hospital following a short illness. She was ninety years old.

Maureen was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Richard Corrigan and the former Elsie Brabander in the middle of the night during a blizzard on January 17, 1936, at Methodist Hospital on the corner of 7th Avenue and 7th Street. Naturally, 7 became her lifelong lucky number.

Maureen graduated from Fontbonne Hall Academy in Brooklyn in 1954, then went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Education from St. John’s University in Queens in 1958. For a number of years, she taught elementary school first in Brooklyn and later in Pennsylvania before leaving the profession to become a full-time mother and homemaker.

In 1953, Maureen met a charming Brooklyn-bred Army corporal during a Sunday afternoon tea dance at Childs Paramount in Manhattan. After two years of dating, Maureen and that corporal William Neville married at the Holy Name of Jesus RC Church on Prospect Park West on August 20, 1955. Over the following decades, this union was blessed with the addition of seven children.

Maureen’s beloved Bill passed away in 2020. Maureen was also predeceased by her parents; her seven brothers and sisters, Florence Hopkins, Charles Corrigan, Gloria Donbavand, Alice Lordi, Richard Corrigan, Nancy Hall, and Catherine Hickey; a son-in-law, Dennis Black; a great-grandson, Leland Dietrich Cambieri; and, most recently, a son, Marc Neville.

Her remaining children survive her: Christopher J. Neville (Diane), of Malvern; Kerry E. Black, of Bolivar, Tenn.; Marissa K. Dietrich (Viking), of Berlin, Germany; Jonathan C. Neville, of Williamsport; Francesca M. Neville (Jonathan Kroll), of Montgomery; and Katrina E. Henderson (John David "J.D."), of Apex, N.C. In addition, Maureen is survived by her daughter-in-law, Leslie Chuhinka of Marysville; a brother-in-law, John Hickey of Allentown; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and Andrew Fleck of Harrisburg, a friend of the Neville family.

Arrangements are being handled by Crouse Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport. A rosary service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 100 Walnut St., Montoursville, with burial following at Blooming Grove Cemetery on Dunkard Church Road in Cogan Station.

In lieu of flowers or other memorials, the family kindly requests you contribute to your favorite charity in Maureen’s name.
