Robert Frank Falk, 93, died peacefully at home in Williamsport surrounded by family on February 2, 2026, following a long illness.

Born in Astoria, Queens, on June 28, 1932, Bob was a man of constant evolution and unlimited intellectual curiosity. Son of Ann Capone and Frank Falk, he was a proud graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School. He earned a Bachelor's Degree of Philosophy, followed by a Bachelor of Divinity degree, at Drew University. He was ordained a Methodist minister and married Gayle Slater, with whom he had four children. His intellectual pursuits gradually shifted and he went on to receive a Masters Degree at Wayne State University. He moved to Mt. Union College in Ohio, where he taught and directed theatre, and concurrently earned a PhD in theatre from Wayne State, a pivot that would define his professional legacy.

In 1970, Bob was recruited by the dean to run the theatre program at Lycoming College. Collaborating with set designer Gary Dartt and costume designer Brenda Dartt, Bob directed numerous, memorable student productions. The college's summer theatre program thrived under his guidance, featuring contributions from a wide range of talents, from local actors and musicians to Broadway alumni. During a year-long sabbatical in 1977, he lived in New York and appeared on the TV shows "To Tell The Truth" and "All My Children." In 1979, he married Amy Cartal and they had a daughter in 1985. Throughout his tenure at Lycoming, Bob helped organize weekend theatre trips to New York, led student groups on May term trips to England, and later took students to the Stratford Festival in Canada. He taught acting, directing, film, and theatre history at Lycoming for 32 years. Bob also served as assistant dean, interim dean of the College and faculty marshall. He received an honorary Doctor of Laws in 1995. Always committed to its mission, Bob was a positive force in the life of the College. Bob enjoyed many different hobbies, including pottery, tennis, skiing, sailing, painting, and golf.

He loved going to Broadway shows in New York, gardening, enjoying a cup (or three) of coffee, cooking and baking, hosting parties, reading, and doing the Sunday crossword puzzle. He was thrilled to take a cooking class in Macon, France and watercolor lessons in Paris. He loved to
travel, visiting England, Scotland, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Mauritius, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas, among others, engaging in social interactions wherever he went, whether or not he could speak the language. He spent many happy hours sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and Nantucket Sound. Chatham, MA was a special place for Bob and he was able to enjoy one last summer family vacation on Cape Cod in August 2025.

Bob will be remembered for his intellect, wry sense of humor, generosity of spirit, optimistic outlook and boundless energy. His silly misadventures have provided endless laughs for those who knew him. Happiest when he was surrounded by his friends and family, Bob took great comfort in their presence as he battled cancer.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of forty-six years, Amy, and four children, Dianne (John), Drew (Olivia), David (Rodney), and Caitlin (Patrick). "Peepa," as he was affectionately known, is survived by nine grandchildren: Amber (Jesse), Melissa (Jonathan), Tessa (Drew), Jessi (Joe), Jeremy (Autumn), Connor, Trevor, Nora, and Sylvie; ten great-grandchildren: Ashton, Jillian, MacKenzie, J.C., Ava, Brantley, Blakeley, Trace, Raelynn, and Carter; and one great-great-grandchild expected in June; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He also enjoyed a close relationship with his brother-in-law Todd, wife Sue, and their family. He had a large group of friends in Williamsport, who supported and helped him and Amy while he was ailing. His warm, charismatic and loving nature will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Bob is predeceased by his first wife Gayle, his daughter Deborah Falk Rogers, his grandson John Ashley Irion (survived by his wife Holly), his sister Lynne, and his in-laws Barbara and Andre Cartal (survived by his wife Christa).

Bob's family would like to thank Dr. Sholi, Sherri Bower, and the entire hospice team at UPMC, as well as Dr. Pinckney and Dr. Bloiso for their kind and thoughtful care. A memorial service will take place in the spring at the Mary L. Welch Theatre at Lycoming College in Williamsport.

A Celebration of the Life of Bob Falk's life will be held at the Mary Welch Theatre at Lycoming College, Mulberry St., Williamsport PA 17701, on May 2, 2026 at 1 p.m.
