Ronald L. Rock, 87, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2023 at The Gatehouse.

He was born in Waynesboro on Oct. 9, 1936, son to the late Carl Lester and Alma Gayle (Gilbert) Rock.

Ron was a 1953 graduate of Greencastle High School.  His senior year he set a new Franklin County Track and Field record for the quarter mile in 52.4 seconds. In 1959, he graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers College with a Business Curriculum/Accounting degree. While there, he lettered in football and track and played basketball. Then in 1965, he received his Master of Education degree from Penn State University.

While serving in the U.S. Navy from Aug.1955 until 1959 and the Navy Reserves until 1963, on Nov. 18, 1955, he was designated "Honor Man of Company 438 at the Recruit Training Command of the U.S. Navel Training Center, Bainbridge, MD."

His teaching career began in 1959 at Penn Delco High School, Delaware County, where he coached sports. Then he moved to Juniata Valley High School, Huntingdon County where he held various positions while teaching. These included Vice Principal, Attendance Officer, class and yearbook advisor, assistant football, JV boy's basketball and head baseball coach. On May 27, 2023, Ron was awarded the "Juniata Valley School District Exceptional Service Award" by their Alumni Association. Of this, he was very appreciative.  August 1971, Ron began a very rewarding 22 year career at WACC (Pennsylvania College of Technology) teaching in the Business Department.  He received the Excellence in Teaching Award in 1987 and the Master Teaching award in 1993.

Ron was a member and Past Master of Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge No.300 of Huntingdon, PA. Other Masonic organizations included Huntingdon Commandery No. 65 Knights Templar and the Scottish Rite in which he received the Meritorious Service Award in 1999.

In his early 30's Ron began jogging and by age 50 completed four marathons. He was a Life Member of the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Company where he served as Treasurer and received the 2004 Special Appreciation Award from the Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Company.

As a member and ordained elder of Bethel Linden Presbyterian Church, Ron taught Senior High Sunday school, was a member of session, financial secretary and served on Presbytery committees.

After retirement, he enjoyed doing tax preparations for AARP for over 25 years and had more time for fishing and hunting. He was very faithful in attending his Cardiac Rehab (CHAMPS) for 22 years.

Ron and his wife, the former Judith Statler would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary Dec. 26, 2023.  In addition to Judy, these children and their families survive: son, Steven K. (Lisa) Rock of Boulder, CO; daughter, Karen (Getty) Sarno of Federick, MD; grandchildren, Olivia Rock, Nathan Rock, Joseph Rock, Cole Sarno, and Rebecca Sarno; sisters, Barbara Williams of Gettysburg and Carole Rock of Spring, TX; brothers, Jeffery (Diane) Rock of Rochester Hills, MI and Randal Rock of Greencastle. In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by sister, Shirley Ryder.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, at Bethel Linden Presbyterian Church, 2758 Bottle Run Rd., Williamsport, PA 17701.  Immediately following the service there will be a visitation and luncheon at the church.  Burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorial contributions in Ron's name may be made to Bethel Linden Presbyterian Church or Susquehanna Health Foundation, for the benefit of The Gatehouse, 1001 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701.
