Sara Elizabeth Derr, 89, of Williamsport, passed away Thursday evening, May 9, 2019, at the Gatehouse.

Born in Williamsport, Nov. 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Samuel E. and Eva Smith Furl.

On July 28, 1951, Sara married her high school sweetheart, Jerome W. Derr, and together the celebrated 67 wonderful years.

She was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School; she was a longtime member of the reunion committee. Sara was employed at the Williamsport Area School District for 43 years retiring as secretary at the former Charles Lose Elementary School.

She was a life-long member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish (formerly Church of the Annunciation)

Sara is survived in addition to her husband by a daughter, Connie Reed, of Westfield; her son, Jerome W. Derr II, of Arvado, Colo.; granddaughters, Michele E. (Robert) Landolt, of Salisbury, Md., Samantha J. Reed (Fiancé Brett Weiskopff), of Covington; and sister, Mary Ellen Gilmour, of South Williamsport.

Sara was predeceased by her son-in-law, Michael R. Reed

The family will receive friends in the church portico from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday May 13, 2019, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with the Rev. Brian Van Fossen officiating, followed by burial at Wildwood Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers, memorial donations in Sara's name may be made to St. Joseph the Worker Parish.
