Shirley Goss Reese, 92, slipped peacefully into the arms of her beloved husband and son with family by her side on May 19, 2019. Mrs. Reese grew up in Dallas, Pa., where she graduated valedictorian of her class and subsequently left for Drexel University at the age of 16.
It was there that, as foretold by a fortune teller, she met and later married a WWII fighter pilot named C. Douglas Reese. She went on to get her masters degree at Bucknell University where her academic achievements again catapulted her to the top of her class.

Her 66 year marriage was filled with a bounty of wonderful friends, the love of an adoring family and the world travel she so enjoyed. She is remembered for her philanthropic concerns and was a steadfast advocate for the James V. Brown Library.

Mrs. Reese was most gratified, when, as guidance counselor at the Williamsport High School, her influence touched those entrusted to her in a way that enhanced the trajectory of their lives and was the founder and chairperson of the W.A.H.S. Scholarship Foundation, an organization designed to work on behalf of students whose destiny should include a competitive college environment.

Mrs. Reese was past presidents of the Williamsport Welcome Wagon and the Garden Club. She was a longstanding member of the Williamsport Country Club and the Woman's Club.

Mrs. Reese was predeceased by her husband, Douglas; and son, Robert; but her legacy lives on through her daughter, Melinda, (Steve); her grandsons, Brent (Natalie), Warren, Brice, Chase Douglas; and her great-grandson, Teague.

She had a zest for life, and brought love and adventure into her every endeavor. She was adored and is greatly missed.
A memorial will be held this fall.
