Thomas Berrigan, 79, a native of Williamsport, formerly of Lemoyne, died at home in Williamsport on August 7, 2026 while surrounded by family.

Tom was born in Williamsport on September 25, 1946 a son of the late Andrew A. and Marguerite E. (Orner) Berrigan.

Already the father of four children, Andrew A. Berrigan enlisted in the armed services during World War II. He returned home on Christmas Day 1945. Nine months later, September 25, 1946, Tom was born. Tom was the ultimate middle child, mathematically true with four siblings on either side, but also characteristically accurate. He was a storyteller. He had to make you laugh. He was a charmer.

From Pennsylvania to New Jersey to Washington DC to California to Arizona and back to where it all started in PA, Tom packed quite a bit into his nearly 80 years. He boxed, he umpired baseball, he was a meat cutter, a reporter, a press secretary, a director of communications, an editor, an actor alongside folks like Martin Sheen, a substitute teacher, a special needs teacher, a marathoner, a bungee jumper, and he drove across the country more times than most. He loved poetry, civil liberties, and his family. But most of all he was a wonderful father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife, Judith M. (Folmar) Berrigan; children, Andrew Berrigan II, Delia Berrigan Fakis and Gavin Izaguirre; grandchildren, Rosa Berrigan, Gabriel Berrigan, Esperanza Berrigan, Christina Berrigan, Simon Berrigan, Catalina Berrigan, Miguel Berrigan, Maria Berrigan, Felix Berrigan, Leo Berrigan, Virginia Fakis, Roxanne Fakis, Romeo Izaguirre, Sayah Izaguirre; siblings, Andrew A. Berrigan II (Diane), Mary Dawes, Anna Steinbacher (Bernard), Eileen Reid (Michael), Richard Berrigan (Deborah), and Kate Berrigan.

In addition to his parents, a brother, Dennis Berrigan and sister, Margaret Baillargeon preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. 4th St., Williamsport with the Rev. David W. Bechtel officiating.
