Walter Eugene Calvert Jr., 80, of Trout Run, passed on March 27, 2023, at UPMC Susquehanna.

He was born in Bodines on July 23, 1942, a son of the late Walter E. Sr. and Cora Frances (Kerr) Calvert.

Walt was a graduate of Williamsport High School, Lock Haven University, and Bloomsburg University. He spent his career as a special education teacher at South Williamsport Junior/Senior High School. After retiring from South Williamsport, he was a substitute teacher for Southern Tioga School District and Montoursville School District. Walt enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, snowmobiling, hanging out in his barn with all his four-legged friends, vacationing in Key West, reading, and being in the wonderful company of friends and family.

Walt was the devoted patriarch of his family. The love of his life, his wife Diane, and their three children were his greatest passion.  He relished the time he spent with his grandchildren, and they adored their "Yo," a nickname given to him by his eldest grandson. Walt was a genuine friend. Whether he was helping with farm equipment or cars, taking care of animals while their owners were away, or offering an encouraging word—or a good laugh—at just the right moment, he was always there for his friends.

Walt was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Cascade Township prior to its closing.  He and his family volunteered to run the Bingo stand every year at the Church sponsored Cascade Picnic.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Diane Elizabeth (McGee) Calvert; their two daughters Ann Calvert of Interlachen, FL and Daun (Steven) Klarevas of Fairfax, VA and son Daniel (Melody) Calvert of Carlisle; five grandchildren, Bowie Miller, Calvert and Zoe Klarevas, and Joseph and Emilia Calvert, many nephews and nieces, and his darling horse Marley.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Knapp, Richard, Dean, John, and James.
